How chapters are built from a PDF
Unlike EPUBs, PDFs do not have a mandatory chapter structure, so LibriTalk works with what your document provides. If the PDF has an outline (the bookmarks panel in a PDF reader), those entries become your M4B chapters with their original names. That covers most professionally produced ebooks and reports.
Without an outline, LibriTalk looks for heading patterns in the extracted text to place chapter boundaries. A document with clear 'Chapter 1 / Chapter 2' headings chapters cleanly; a flat wall of text may come through as a handful of large sections instead. The free preview tells you which case you are in before any money changes hands.
One honest recommendation: if the same book is available to you as both PDF and EPUB, convert the EPUB. PDF is a print layout format, and even good extraction cannot beat a format where chapters are explicit. The PDF path is for the enormous amount of material that exists only as PDF.

Does a PDF conversion get real chapter markers?
Yes, when the PDF has an outline (bookmarks) or recognizable chapter headings. The chapter names appear in your audiobook app exactly as they appear in the document. PDFs without any structure produce fewer, larger chapters.
What happens with headers, footers, and page numbers?
LibriTalk filters repeating page furniture out of the extracted text so the narration does not read 'page 47' between paragraphs.
Can I convert a scanned book PDF?
Only after OCR. A scanned PDF is pictures of pages; run it through Adobe Acrobat's OCR or the free OCRmyPDF to create selectable text, then upload that version.
How big are the M4B files?
Spoken-word AAC is compact, roughly 25 to 35 MB per listening hour. Even a long textbook fits comfortably on a phone.
What does PDF to M4B conversion cost?
The first file under 100,000 words is free with no card. Then $0.99 (₹89) under 100,000 words, $2.49 (₹229) to 250,000, and $4.99 (₹449) above that, counted after page furniture and non-narrative sections are excluded.
